Japanese Spouted Serving Bowl by Ben Okazaki 岡﨑 勉

$30.00
sold out

A small katakuchi — a traditional Japanese spouted bowl used for pouring dressing. Even at this size it pours cleanly and confidently, and it works just as well as an accent piece alongside larger vessels. True to Okazaki's way of working, no detail is rushed — the making is careful through and through. Available in three finishes: white slip (keshō), black glaze, and ash glaze.

Ben Okazaki (b. 1956) trained at the Shigaraki ceramic research institute and apprenticed at kilns in Shigaraki and Tottori before going independent in 1986; his kiln now stands in Kōnan, near Shigaraki. Throwing on a kick wheel in the folk-craft tradition, he makes unpretentious everyday vessels meant to complement food quietly and never tire of use.

height=1.75”/4.5cm, diameter=3.5”/9cm

Care:

  • Hand washing recommended

  • Not dishwasher safe

  • Not for open flame, oven, or induction cooktops

  • Microwave for light reheating only
