Candle and Incense Burner by Maki Ibi 伊比井万貴

$180.00

A hand-built cube lantern patched in hand-painted pattern — chrysanthemum rounds, stripes, and pinwheel triangles in cobalt and olive on one side, a moonlit field of rabbits, grasses, and seigaiha waves on another — with diamond cutouts to let candlelight through. A small flower-painted tile slides out the arched door: lay it flat as an incense holder (the stick stands in its hole), or tuck it away and set a tealight inside.

Maki Ibi 伊比井万貴 is a potter at Aso Kuginogama 阿蘇久木野窯, a small kiln in Kugino, Minami-Aso, at the foot of the Aso caldera in Kumamoto. The kiln’s work moves across sansai three-color glazes, kohiki white slip, and celadon, with decoration built up by hand — and this piece gathers that whole vocabulary onto four small faces, no two alike.

Height= 2.75”/ 7cm, Width= 2.25”/ 5.75 cm, Depth= 2.75”/ 7cm
As each piece is formed and painted by hand, pattern and dimensions vary slightly (±1–2mm).

Care:

  • Hand washing only; wipe ash away with a dry cloth

  • Not dishwasher safe

  • Use only with a tealight or incense on a heat-safe surface; never leave a flame unattended

  • Exterior becomes warm during use — handle after it cools

  • Do not use in the microwave
